This week in reunions... the Hole saga drags on

* So, in case you haven't been paying attention, Courtney Love said she was getting Hole back together, which surprised her old bandmates. One of them, guitarist Eric Erlandson, claimed he and Hole made an agreement when they broke up 7 years ago that neither of them could tour or record as Hole without the other. Well, Love has taken to Twitter and claims that a) that's not true, and b) Erlandson was stealing from her. And yes, if you're keeping track, this is the 325th person Love has accused of helping to take all her money in the late '90s.

* Alice in Chains' new album comes out in about a month, and apparently Elton John is playing piano on the title track, "Black Gives Way to Blue," a tribute to Layne Staley. The first single off the album, "A Looking In View," is #27 this week on the rock charts and #38 on the alternative charts.

* The Butthole Surfers have been playing sporadic reunion dates of late, and now they're doing a full-fledged tour, September 24 - October 31. This is the late-'80s lineup reunited, but I'm assuming they still play "Pepper."

Butthole Surfers continue return with short tour

The Butthole Surfers appear to be slowly ramping back up. After a summer tour of the Northeast and Europe, then a one-off in their hometown of Austin last month, the complete original line-up will do four shows in October:
October 22 - Granada Theater, Dallas
October 23 - Meridian, Houston
October 24 - One Eyed Jacks, New Orleans
October 26 - Voodoo Festival, New Orleans*

Back in the fold are bassist Jeff Pinkus, who played with the band from 1986 to 1994, and second drummer Teresa Taylor, who was in the band from 1983 to 1989.
The Surfers then head to Minehead, England for the annual All Tomorrow's Parties festival in December.

(*So yes, if you're counting at home, this means REM and the Butthole Surfers will share the same stage on the Sunday of the festival. The Surfers used to famously do an extremely-obscene cover of "Driver 8" live.)

Butthole Surfers return to Austin

The Butthole Surfers will return to Austin September 27, with the complete original lineup performing. As you might recall, the band did a short Northeast tour in June and July without original guitarist Paul Leary.

The vintage-1980s lineup of the Butthole Surfers will reunite for a series of shows in the US and Europe beginning in June, says Live Daily, minus guitarist Paul Leary, who has prior commitments (Leary has become an in-demand producer and mixer, working with Sublime, the Refreshments, the Meat Puppets, U2, Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, and others).

The band last released any music in the summer of 2002, with an odds-n-sods compilation, Humpty Dumpty LSD. Their last proper album was 2001's Weird Revolution, which was a sort-of replacement for 1998's ultimately-unreleased After the Astronaut (about half of the Astronaut songs ended up on Revolution). You could call Revolution commercially disappointing (it charted at #130, then sank), but come on, "Pepper" was a bit of a fluke, right?

Surfers lead singer Gibby Haynes put out a solo album in 2004.
